David G. Taylor
BA (Hons) MA. (b. Wirral, Merseyside, 1968) is a British artist who relocated to Brighton from London in 2022.
Liminal spaces, neurodiversity, substance abuse, body image, the LGBTQAI+ experience and the transformative power of imagination are among the themes explored in his work. Inspired by dadaism and pop art, he creates through collage, painting, drawing and most recently, digital art. Projects have included making mixed media murals depicting surreal underwater worlds, T-shirt designs such as for the independent UK record label Not Saints, designing promotional posters, flyers, postcards, logos and CD sleeves.
Prints of his designs are available at Brighton’s art boutique, Jules Emporium, on New Road. However, the artist is most proud of his projects, The Bedevilments and also The Fourth Wall – two immerse interactive non-linear story-worlds housed in vintage suitcases, which combine his art, writing and storytelling skills. The Bedevilments was his MA in Creative Writing and Publishing final project, for which he was awarded a ‘Distinction’.
Meanwhile, The Fourth Wall provides a fictional backstory to the Grey Lady ghost said to haunt Brighton’s Theatre Royal Brighton. It’s a mystery inspired by 1950’s cinema and told through left-behind belongings, correspondence, photographs, film posters and other pieces of art; all of which can be rummaged through and read by the public.
