NICHOLAS MARSH

Nicholas Marsh
Plein Air Painter

Plein air painting allows me to capture the emotional and sensory dimension of a particular landscape in a short period of time. Personally, landscapes or seascapes are places to observe open harmonious space with its variety of luminous colours which attribute to a cathartic experience.

I’ve obtained a B.A Hons in three design at Stoke on Trent Polytechnic. After my education, I lived in a Kibbutz in Israel where I had the opportunity to travel to the Lebanon border and to the Egyptian border, visiting Jerusalem on the way. After travelling, I trained in London as a picture framer and restorer, including framing work by Henry Moore and Roy Lichtenstein at a South Kensington framers. Then, eventually I came to Brighton.

I’ve exhibited in many galleries, including a local solo exhibition at The Grange Gallery in Rottingdean and the Bankside Gallery in London, where I exhibited a Lithograph called the Hermit. Recently, I’ve been doing plein air painting in the local area, including Ovingdean, Saltdean, Rottingdean and Brighton. I’ve also been experimenting with digital artwork using an Apple iPen, which I find helpful when painting in oils.
